A walk above Leek – between the rain

001

It had rained a lot in the night and we had to pick our way through the muddy fields.

002

The rain had just stopped and it was quite hard going up the steep hill.

003

Clouds still covered the sky as we crossed the fields at the top.

004a

From this vantage point we had a view of Rudyard Lake…

006a

…and out over Leek…

007a

…and a view towards the Roaches.

008

We headed down into the valley…

009

…at times the ground was very slippy, as Alan can testify!

012

At the bottom we followed the path between two streams…

013

…where the water rushed along from the recent rain.

014

A solitary duck patrolled the stream…

015

…and the ponds were fuller than normal.

016

It was easy going along the path.

018

A highland cow inspected us as we passed by.

021

We circled back by Rudyard Lake, it was here we took our break…

022

…on the dam.

024

With care we crossed the stream.

026

We all managed to cross without incident…

028

…before heading up to Horton Church…

029

…and its accompanying vicarage.

033

Finally we headed down towards our cars, arriving just before the rain restarted…

034a

…and added to these additional pools. We were fortunate in completing our walk without getting wet!
