ACTIVITY IN RETIREMENT (AIR)

1989	AIR was founded after the Senior Citizens Club at that time ceased. Clifford and Marjory Gray MBE thought to get retired people togother. They advertised in the local newspaper and 30 people attended the first meeting. These became the founding members of AIR.
1990	The first AGM was held, the first newsletter was published and the first Gadabout was organised.
1991	Became a registered charity. The Social Committee was formed. The first overseas holiday.
1994	Awarded best retirement organisation in the North West by the United Co-operative Society.
2009	20th Anniversary Celebration.
2012	Jubilee Party.
2014	25th Anniversary.
2015/16	Senior Citizens Hall (now Macclesfield Community Centre) saved from demolition (full report in ‘Documents’).
2019	30th Anniversary Celebrations.
2020	Awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest honour for volunteer groups in the UK.
